Lisbon
A small town in eastern Linn County with a classic main street and a festival that has run every August since 1909.
Typical times without traffic, from OpenStreetMap routing. Rush hour runs longer.
Small town, old roots.
Lisbon was laid out in 1851, named after Lisbon, Portugal, and incorporated in 1875. The 2020 census counted 2,233 people and 922 homes.
The Lisbon Community School District serves the town and reaches out into rural Linn, Cedar, Jones and Johnson counties.
An August festival held since 1909, with a parade, a 5K, a car show and a street dance.
A museum on East Main Street and an official Lincoln Highway stop.
Playground, splash pad, soccer and baseball fields and picnic shelters.
A historic bridge and park a few miles south of town.
An acreage with a Lisbon address can be in unincorporated Linn County, or across the line in Cedar or Jones County, and each comes with different taxes and rules. Rural Linn County adds its own levy on top of the countywide rate.
Rural homes often run on a private well and septic system, and Iowa requires a septic inspection before the sale. I check the county, taxing district and septic status on every acreage we look at.
